Here's what pet food companies don't advertise:
Cats are obligate carnivores. Unlike dogs, they cannot synthesize taurine internally. They must get 100% of it from food.
Taurine powers everything — heart muscle, retinal cells, brain function, nervous system, immune response.
Without it, the body enters power-saving mode. Energy drops. Coat dulls. Muscles weaken. The cat doesn't die immediately — they fade. Slowly. In ways that look exactly like aging.
The problem?
Taurine is destroyed by heat.
Kibble is extruded at 300-400°F. Canned food is pressure-cooked for sterilization.
By the time it reaches the bowl, up to 70% of the original taurine is gone.
Pet food companies know this. That's why they spray synthetic taurine back on after cooking — but only the legal minimum. Just enough to prevent obvious disease. Not enough for optimal health.
We're feeding our cats "dead food" and wondering why they have no life left.
